Thank you to all our members who attended our Annual Trophy Presentation on the 19th December 2015.

Congratulations from all the staff at SYSC to all competitors who received trophies on the day.

A full year of competitions has drawn to a close with tremendous results in all categories. Notably Jack Osborn who hit the perfect 10 in November for a very clean 100/100. The first in 18 month of competition, this shows us just how demanding our targets are here at SYSC.

Luke Meakin defied the odds to become the first Junior to finish in the top 3 of the club open competition in the clubs history.

Les Singer, Ron Lindley and our own Amanda Atkinson dominated the .22 competition at 25yds with a winning score of 97/100

Peter Broad and Gary Ward came out on top of the .177 Springer competition and Keith Salter completed the double winning the .22 Springer Competition and runner up in the 32yd discipline, where David Coldwell was outstanding winning the 32yd discipline.

Our Club Trajectory challenge was won by Paul Clarke with a 60/60 and very respectable scores for 2nd place Vin Rigby and Nick Thackeray.

The 10mtr Pistol was won by outstanding pistol shot Vin Rigby, 2nd place went to Michael McGowan and 3rd place to Paul Burrows.

Our Junior league this year has been first Class. Our club philosophy is to encourage and educate our next generation of Air Gunners and they have not let us down with some outstanding scoring and entertainment throughout the year !!

Our Summer Knock-Out Target Competition 

Our Summer competition that started in June turned out to be quite a spectacle, thanks to a certain young junior Jorja Woodhouse (aged 9) making the final but unfortunately breaking her arm playing football, these girls hey !! Jorja worked her way through the group stages beating an array of top class shooters along the way, including her Dad (sorry Damon) finally reaching the final to face an equally talented Peter Broad, this years .177 Springer Champion.

As part of our Trophy Presentation Day at the club we held the Summer Knock Out final due to the timing and heaped on the pressure of a enthusiastic crowd and Firework opening ceremony !! First to shoot were our group ‘B’ finalists once again dominated by the Juniors. Emma Grayson last years Junior Champion coming out on top with a fantastic 94 on the day narrowly beating Natasha Carpenter with a very respectful 92. 3rd Place went to Frank Saddington and 4th Place to Ewen Drewry. Just a quick one on Frank Saddington (over 60) decided a toilet stop was needed during the opening ceremony and managed to miss the whole thing, now personally I think this was a tactic as his heart beat was barely registering as he addressed his gun for the first shot !!

The Group ‘A’ Competition was eventually won by Jorja Woodhouse aged 9 by 1 shot over Peter Broad with a 93 to 92. Rick Grayson finished 3rd and Ian Ralph 4th.

Our Honorary Member receiving life membership to SYSC was Mr Les Singer for his Un-conditional help and love of the club.

The Doodie Larder Elite Cup was presented to Mr and Mrs Sommers for their ‘Spirit’ towards the club including, Club Etiquette, Good Spirit, Charitable Work, Help and Advice and Friendly attitude towards all.

On a personal note I have throughly enjoyed every minute of the banter and friendships made during the competition, we will be running a Summer and Winter Knock Out in 2016 with the intention of shooting the final again at our Presentation.

With our September Shoot-Out we have introduced a Handicap System very similar to Golf. Each member entering the shoot-out will have a handicap score to bring all shooters on to a level playing field.

Can you believe the first name out of the hat was Ron Lindley !! is that a sign ? We have a brilliant first round match between Helen Bennett and Jorja Woodhouse, Paul Clarke, Birthday Champion has drawn Junior Ewan Drewry with Emma Grayson, Junior champion drawing Anthony Glover, Natasha Carpenter leading open lady has drawn Les Singer and Leading open man Richard Newman has drawn Danny Hardy.

The first round will take place between Monday 15th June and Sunday 25th June. Collect your match target during your next visit.

March Competitions

20 yds – 10 Shot Freestanding Rifle Challenge (.177 or .22 PCP or Springer)

Using the targets supplied position your target at 20 yds. 4 Practice shots allowed. Turn your scope magnification to 8x zoom, then freestanding with no support take 5 shots at the top target and 5 shots at the bottom target for a score of 100 points. 2 targets per hour.

Split the A3 Card Resting on your Elbows (15yds) (.177 or .22 PCP or Springer)

Using the large supplied A3 Cards, fix the card to the bull dog clip located on the side of your carriage. Set your carriage at 15 yds. Split the card completely in half in the least amounts of shots resting only on your elbows. 2 cards per hour.

Split the A3 Card at the back wall (33yds) (.177 or .22 PCP or Springer)

Using the large supplied A3 Cards, fix the card to the bull dog clip located on the side of your carriage. Set your carriage at the back wall (33yds). Split the card completely in half in the least amounts of shots resting only on your elbows. 2 cards per hour.

As you will know South Yorkshire Shooting Club have been running shooting competitions since the turn of the year. We are overwhelmed with the response and the standard of the Bench Rest Shooting so far.

We think it will be great to have a ‘Top Six Shoot Off’ on our 3rd Birthday, which will be held on Friday 15th May.

What will this involve ? – Currently there are 13 Individual competitions running the course of the year, with the final Trophy presentations being made at the Christmas Party in December.

To break up the year we will ask the ‘Top Six’ leaders of each competition to take part on the evening in a friendly shoot off for prizes on the night.

(The annual scores will not be effected by this and continue as normal up to December.)

We would love to see all our members at this event and create an amazing atmosphere for the competitors.

We will post more info on the event a little closer to the date but keep it free if you can !!
